A full diagnostic imaging service is available at St Mary's Hospital from Monday to Friday at 9am to 5pm and is provided via a walk-in service.
An out of hours emergency service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for x-ray and CT scans.
Dental service
The dental x-ray department is located in the north of St Marys Hospital, opposite the Maxillofacial Unit.
Walk in opening times are:
- Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at 9:15am to midday and 1:30pm to 4:15pm
- Tuesdays at 1:30pm to 4:15pm
- Fridays - closed
The general radiology department has 3 digital rooms, 2 have enhanced software to perform image pasting and dual energy radiology. There is also a small satellite department in the north hospital, which provides general and dental radiology.
MRI
Magnetic Resonance Imaging MRI is a scanning technique which produces very high quality pictures of various parts of the body without using X-rays. The use of MRI can provide quick, early and accurate diagnosis.
CT
A CT Computed Tomography scan provides high resolution imaging for oncology, cardiovascular neurological, and acute care.
Ultrasound
The ultrasound department has 2 main scanning rooms within the main imaging department providing a full diagnostic service.
Mammography
Our Breast Screening Unit offers a symptomatic service as well as participating in the national breast screening programme. The service has been recognised as one of the early implementer sites delivering the age extension to the national programme.
Imaging procedures are provided by a highly experienced team of professionals who strive to deliver a high standard of care to patients, improving the speed of diagnosis. Investment has been made in state of the art technology allowing the most up to date imaging techniques to be captured digitally and stored on a picture archive communication system PACS. This allows Consultants to view the images throughout the hospital on a computer terminal.
Specialist imaging is contracted from mainland providers.
