The Gastroenterology Team provides a wide range of gastroenterology services for both inpatients and outpatients.
Gastroenterology is the service which looks after patients with gastrointestinal disease which includes disease of any part of the digestive tract and areas of the liver, biliary tract, and pancreas.
Gastroenterological conditions range from acute life-threatening illnesses such as liver failure or gastrointestinal haemorrhage, through to serious chronic conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease and liver disease, to non-life-threatening problems such as functional bowel syndromes. The speciality is also involved in the diagnosis and treatment of various cancers and with public health, issues relating to chronic and excess alcohol use.
Services include:
- Daily ward rounds.
- Outpatient clinics including cancer fast track clinics.
- Endoscopy, including diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to oesophagus, stomach, duodenum, colon, and bile ducts.
- Anaemia screening.
- Infusion drug therapy for inflammatory bowel disease
- Assessment, investigation, diagnosis, and treatment of medical gastrointestinal conditions.
