Our Pharmacy is so much more than the dispensary that you see when you come into hospital.

We are very proud of the service we provide to go the extra mile to make medicines safe for our patients, and work rewarding for our staff.

Our service is internationally recognised for its clinical service innovation and creative use of technology to improve safety and quality, releasing valuable clinical time to care for patients. We use integrated technology solutions within the department and on the wards to be able to work closely with staff and patients, keep data entry to a minimum by linking everything to the doctor’s electronic prescription, and to ensure that we give best value from the £9 million a year that the trust spends on medicines.

We care for patients by valuing the role our staff play in their recovery and well-being, enabling patients to be safely independent when managing their medicines. We invest in our staff career development to continually improve their skills and knowledge, give our patients competency assurance, and help our staff to achieve their own personal aspirations and goals.

We see the rewards in this investment as pharmacists take on more responsibility within clinical teams: looking after their own patient lists, prescribing when patients come into hospital, helping the doctors with the choice of the many medicines available, getting the medicines right when patients go home, and letting the right people know how to continue care once at home. Our registered technicians gain extra qualifications and skills to be able to work more independently, supporting the pharmacists and patients. All our staff continually look for ways to be even better, creating a dynamic team who drive their own service forward.

Our one goal is to get the right medicines to the right patient at the right time, in the right place. A constant challenge with the ever increasing and changing NHS workload, but one that we welcome and will continue to strive to get right and get better. Our registered technicians gain extra qualifications and skills to be able to work more independently, supporting the pharmacists and patients. All our staff continually look for ways to be even better, creating a dynamic team who drive their own service forward.
