Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) is part of the urgent and emergency care we provide.
SDEC accepts patients from our acute and community services that meet a certain criteria.
This criteria is:
- clinical stability based on clinical assessment.
- SDEC is the best place to meet the patient’s required clinical needs.
- SDEC staffing and facilities are the most appropriate to meet the patient’s functional needs and maintain their privacy and dignity.
To avoid hospital admission, patients are assessed, diagnosed, and managed on the same day.
SDEC is open seven days a week from 7:30am to 8pm, with the last admission to the unit dependent on the presenting health issue.
SDEC is located on the ground floor of St Mary’s Hospital and patients should report to the Acute Assessment Unit (AAU) reception.
